First note that there are several types of US Savings Bonds which include EE, HH, and I. EE is my personal favorite due to their dependable nature and low risk. It also just so happens to be the type of Bond you can receive at BondRewards!
What is an EE US Savings Bond?
EE Savings Bonds are a highly reliable and low-risk government-backed savings bond. These bonds can be used to fund education, birthday, graduation gifts, supplemental retirement income, and other special events.
What are the benefits of a US Savings Bond?
Other than investing in something that is destined to go up and up, you’re also investing in our country! You’re investing to aid the US and make the economy strong and prosperous. Although you may not be buying up millions in Bonds – you are doing your part to fund the US while securing your future. US Savings Bonds will get paid back to you in full, plus interest (recession or not) making them extremely attractive!
Additionally, US Savings Bonds do not need to get reported to the IRS until they are actually cashed. All the time that it spends gaining interest is completely under the table.
Why are they low risk?
EE Savings Bonds are the most low risk bond since they will always increase in value as long as the interest is accumulated over 30 years. They always end up paying out the interest plus the initial investment making them a highly sought after security.
How do you get a US Savings Bond?
You can get them if you meet the minimum requirements of being a US Citizen with a Social Security number. You can also be a citizen yet living abroad or a civilian employee of the US regardless of your residence. You can purchase a US Savings Bond through TreasuryDirect or any financial institution.
Alternatively, you can join BondRewards, shop for the things you would normally purchase while getting a percentage of that returned to you. Then you can redeem your accrued savings for an EE US Savings Bond! This is probably the easiest way to invest in an EE Savings Bond – not to mention fun J.
Key Points to Remember:
- Don’t cash out on your EE Savings Bond until you’ve had it for 5 years. Cashing out before 5 years surrenders the three most-recent month’s interest.
- Electronic and Paper EE Bonds are slightly different. Make sure you know the facts before you make your choice.
- EE Savings Bonds get compiled 2x a year.

Once you reach 50 BondDollars you can redeem them through our site for either Cash or U.S. Savings Bonds. Once you choose the option you like, we process your redemption and the Cash is transfered to your bank account or the U.S. Savings Bond is mailed to your home. It’s very simple.
